Virgin River by Robyn Carr

I love this book! I have read it several times and I just have to share it with you.

When nurse practitioner/midwife Melinda Monroe loses her husband in a tragic robbery she decides she needs to get out of L.A. and go somewhere small and safe. She decides to take a job in the small mountain town of Virgin River, pop. 600. When she gets to the charming cabin she's supposed to get rent free for the next year, it's so run down there's a birds nest in the oven. Mel decides to hit the road the next morning, but not before stopping for some coffee at the only bar in town. The handsome owner, Jack, can't talk her into staying so he decides to walk her out. That's when they find a baby on the old doc's front porch. Mel decides to stay...for a bit.

This is really a wonderful read. Mel is someone you want to be friends with and Jack is someone you want to fall in love with. The Virgin River series is chock full of retired Marines. The secondary characters make Virgin River a town you want to live in.
